laboratory information systems (LIS) -
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - (a nurse who completes a year-long (typically) certified educational program plus passage of an additional licensing exam)
Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) - (nurse who works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), has completed a year-long (typically) certified educational program, and has passed an additional licensing exam)
Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) - (a protocol used to access directories (databases) of information, such as user names and passwords)
List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE) - (list of individuals and entities who are excluded from participation in all U.S. federal healthcare programs because of healthcare fraud convictions or other felony convictions, such as patient abuse or neglect, or convictions relating to the unlawful manufacture or distribution of controlled substances)
local area network (LAN) - (A computer network that interconnects computers within a limited area, such as a home, school, or office building using network media.)
Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes (LOINC) - (a widely accepted coding system specially formulated for identifying laboratory and clinical observations)
