JAD - Joint Analysis Development (A type of software development method that uses a team approach in application development in a workshop-oriented environment - the IT department/programmers will meet with staff of the marketing or accounting department.)

JAD - Joint Application Development (A type of software development model in which users (marketing or accounting staff) and developers (IT staff/programmers) work together during the development process by holding workshops and meetings to coordinate and decide on the goals and needs of users.)

JAR - Java Archive (A file containing a collection of Java class files that can be downloaded more efficiently than would be possible if each file were downloaded separately.)

JBOD - just a bunch of disks (An early storage method involving groups or arrays of inexpensive disks where data was saved/stored but not in a coordinated or organized manner between disks. Since JBOD provided no redundancy or backup capabilities for data, there was a decision to move to a RAID (redundant array of independent (or inexpensive) disks) system, developed in 1987, where data was written simultaneously, or copied, to multiple disks.)

JCL - Job Control Language (The command language used in batch jobs (a group of jobs which are executed in a combined process, rather than individually) to tell a computer what to do - how the batch instructions are to be executed.)

JDBC - Java Database Connectivity (An application programming interface (API) that allows a Java application to communicate with a database.)

JDBC API - Java Database Connectivity Application Programming Interface (An application programming interface (API) that allows a Java application to communicate with a database.)

JeOS - just enough operating system (A stripped-down or specifically configured operating system, customized for the specific application and environment in which the appliance will be performing - normally would not include the latest patches and upgrades.)

JIT compiler - just-in-time compiler (A compiler that converts intermediate code into native machine language the first time it is encountered, which allows subsequent execution of that code to occur faster.)

JPEG - Joint Photographic Experts Group (A file format for storing bitmap images, capable of lossy compression (compression or reduction in file size, with some blurring of detail) - JPEG file format is often used to display high-quality photographic images.)

JVM - Java Virtual Machine (Software which serves as an interpreter and converts the bytecode (Java-specific intermediate programming code) into a machine-level format for execution.)
